Former AAPSU president dies
ITANAGAR, May 04: Former All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) president Racho Tama has died after prolonged illness last night at Ziro. He was 56 at the time of his death.
Born in 1959 at Bamin village of Lower Subansiri, he was a brilliant student and
pioneer of students’ movement not only in Apatani community but entire North East.
He joined J.N.C, Passighat and was elected Assistant General Secretary in the year
1976-
Meanwhile, All Bamin Welfare Association (ABWA), Itanagar expressed profound sorrow over the death of the former AAPSU president, Racho Tama.
The contributions of Late Tama will always be remembered by student community in particular and common people in general, said the Association in a condolence message.
The Association conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for his rest in eternal peace.
While mourning the death of Late Racho Tama, the Apatani Youth Association (AYA) said late Tama was selfless and down to earth leader. His contributions towards people of state as well as students community will be remembered forever.

NERIST, AAPLU celebrate May Day
ITANAGAR, May 04: The Department of Mechanical Engineering of North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), Nirjuli celebrated International Labour Day in a befitting manner by honouring some of the employees with “Certificate of Appreciation” for their valuable contribution to the Mechanical Engineering Department.
The office of the Mechanical Association of NERIST (MAN) and Departmental Research Laboratory was inaugurated on the occasion by NERSIT Director PK Das.
In his speech, the Director acknowledged the role of working class and their immense contribution in nation building. He said that the people engaged in manual labour in different departments of this Institute with little or no prestige should not be called as labour, rather they be called as work force as a mark of respect for them, opined the NERIST Director.
Head of the Department Dr. Pradip Lingfa threw light on the history and background of International Labours Day which is celebrated every year on May 1.
Prof. M. Muralidhar briefed on the significance of May Day celebration and highlighted the past and present Labour movements all over the world.
He also highlighted the present scenario of labour force both in organised and unorganised sectors in the country and their wages including latest wage adopted by NERIST with a minimum of Rs. 6500 per month.
MAN Secretary Hussain Md. Javed Tapader also spoke on the occasion.
Besides Deans, HoDs, Registrar, faculty members, officers, staff and students of the institute with large number of work force engaged in different sections, like maintenance cell (civil & electrical), horticulture, sanitation attended the function.
Meanwhile, the East Kameng, West Kameng and Tawang units of All Arunachal Pradesh Labour Union (AAPLU) jointly celebrated International Labour Day at General Ground Seppa on May 1.
Labour Commissioner cum Member Secretary APB&OCWWB Ojing Darung, who was the chief guest of the occasion, distributed helmets, plastic shoes, umbrellas, mosquito nets etc. to the labourers of various departmental and non departmental organizations.
He suggested the labourers to be punctual in their duties and avail the basic facilities provided to them by the state government.

ASM complains against DDSE
ITANAGAR, May 4: The Anchal Samiti Member of 63 Sippi VIII, Siga/Lechin village has complained against DDSE cum District Project Officer, SSA and district coordinator alleging diversion of fund for construction of new primary school building from Lechen to Dayam village.

KVK training
ITANAGAR, May 04: Training on scientific cultivation of cole crops and Solanaceous vegetables for farmers was conducted by KVK, Lower Subansiri at Gano village, Ziro today.
Subject Matter Specialist in Horticulture of the KVK described to the farmers in detail about seed rate and selection, sowing time and methods, nursery management, spacing, nutrient and weed management. He also encouraged the farmers for adopting the mulching technology (organic and inorganic) for weed control and enhancement of yield in vegetables.
Another SMS in Plant Protection trained the farmers about plant protection measures of Cole crops and Solanaceous vegetable crops. Altogether 24 farmers of Gano Farmers Club attended the training.

Relief fund drive for quake victims
ITANAGAR, May 04: The Kalaktang BJP Mandal Committee has decided to conduct a relief drive in aid of the earthquake victims of Nepal and states affected by the earthquake in the country.
The fund raised will be deposited to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. This decision was taken in a meeting held today under the chairmanship of West Kameng District BJP Vice President Wangdi Dorjee Khrimey at Rupa.
The meeting observed two minutes silence for the earthquake victims and expressed solidarity with the people of Nepal at this hour of crisis.
Later, the meeting discussed on the party’s ‘Maha Sampark Abhiyan’ launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 01.
Committee calls for immediate release of CSS funds
ITANAGAR, May 4: The Development & Welfare Committee Ward no. 5 has demanded for immediate release of centrally sponsored scheme (CSS) funds to the state without any further delay.
In a release, it said that MoS home should immediately release the required fund from the centre and direct the BJP legislators to monitor proper utilization of CSS funds released.
While calling on the general public not to blame the state government for the crisis, it said that party differences should be avoided for the general interest of the public welfare.
Social service at police colony

An unfair request
Dear Editor,
Whereas, it is advisable that Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission should try to avoid dates that clashes with the Semester exams, however, it is unfair to request for the extension of dates; on the ground that one is not getting ample time to prepare properly after academic exams. As, this would be a lamest excuse in this case where a mains exam has been dragged for about two years. To add here, no one is thinking about the pain and agony of those who don’t have Job or other exam and those who left their jobs for this exam.
Commission therefore should come out with a clear notification whatsoever; so as to avoid unsolicited requests and problems.
It would not only make the things convenient for the aspirants but for the commission as well. The things have been dragged for far too long. Being flexible is not bad as such but the problem entailing is: dragging/extending the process will always bring it near some or the other exams.

An exam, rains and heat
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, we would like to request APPSC to conduct our APPSCCE Mains examination in the last part of December as it is late already. In the month of June – August, aspirants from interior areas won’t be able to reach in time due to weather problems. Further it will be too hot for the aspirants to face such competitive exams and Law exams are also scheduled to be conducted in June. Further govt servants have lost their entire EL (earned leaves) last year while attempting APPSCCE mains last year.
So it will be better to conduct Mains exam in December last for the servicemen also as they can get some more earned leaves for the preparation of Mains exam.
Therefore, it is my sincere appeal to APPSC to look into the grievances of aspirants so that we can appear the exam without any mental agony.

Hoping to rebuild a new Nepal

Life as Nepali knew it is over.........of all the people in this world no one ever deserved this tragedy less than Nepalis. This catastrophe comes on top of decades of misfortune. The population explosion, sex trafficking of the most vulnerable, massacre of the royal family, Maoist war and political instability , unable to even agree on a new constitution. All this has left Nepal without any effective government.
Its only the attitude, the heart of the Nepalis that have let them bear their many burden before the earthquake. Now, I see them standing on the street reeling from this latest blow. But, still standing tall. With those heartbreaking smiles, even when facing the worst that life can throw at them.
Rising from the dust and hoping to rebuild a new Nepal.

APTET teachers – the sufferers
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, I would like to voice myself for our rightful cause.
With the inception of the NEFA days, the state has gone through many horrible situations.
But present situation of our state is worth mentioning where the bill is not being
passed in due time, due to gross manipulation in higher level-
I thought I will be capable to support my family but now I am like a burden to my family members. There was never a situation to go for loan but after joining SSA, I am loaded with loans. I wonder what is the difference between the job of a regular teacher and a contractual teacher. We do the same work, put the same effort to make our students learn than why this differences.
At the end of a month if the salaries of regular teachers are delayed for even a day havoc is created. Think about our situation, we are serving the schools in the remotest place of the state without a penny which I am sure half the population of the state doesn’t even know the place exists. I guess if the academia were posted in our place only would they know our life’s miseries. Every day of ours counts to misery. Newton’s third law of motion fails to apply in our case. We give, we work hard but we get nothing. We hope and hope for the government action for the release of salaries but no replying back. I wonder if honorable chief minister and education minister are not aware about this situation of APTET SSA teachers. How can somebody live so peacefully keeping others in a hellish situation?
Whenever we visit the concern office inquiring, the response and attitude towards us is regretful. They behave as if we are beggars. The whole country is today debating on the issue regarding farmers committing suicide but the day to my estimation is not far when the entire country will know of Arunachal Pradesh not for its achievement but for the recurring suicide cases of SSA teachers. That would be only because of state government and its corrupted members. Is it our fault?
It bemuses me that they talk of quality education. How can somebody expect us to perform our duty with frustration, empty pocket and stomach? By talking of quality education, shunning the teacher committee, they are only abrading the sense of education. This article may seem bedlam to some but I say stand in our place and know what we are enduring. Therefore I would like to request the academia to please look into the situation and not make us befit a beggar.

Addressing the mammoth gathering, the Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker, T N Thongdok called on everyone to respect each other’s religion and also stressed on peaceful coexistence. Highlighting the essence of Buddhism, he said Buddhism is the only way of life.
Appreciating the joint effort of the TBS and IBCS for celebrating the Buddha Jayanti annually, he said that there is no other place in the country or the world where both the sects of Buddhism come together to celebrate the Buddha Jayanti.
He further expressed happiness that members from various communities have participated in the essay writing competition. While congratulating the winners, he called for greater participation of the younger generation in such competition in future and to emulate the teachings of Buddha.
He also showered praised on Vivekananda Yuva Shakti for conducting the Blood Donation camp on the auspicious occasion.
Altogether 55 units of flood were collected during the blood donation camp organized by the Buddha Jayanti Joint Celebration Committee in collaboration with the Arunachal Vivekananda Yuva Shakti and with the support of doctors and other medical staff from Arunachal Pradesh State Hospital, RKMH and Arunachal Pradesh State Aids Control Society. The collected blood will be donated at RKMH Blood Bank.
Both the Societies also collected a sum of Rs. 40,800 for the relief fund for Nepal earthquake victims. Religious procession with the idol of Lord Buddha along with Holy Buddhist scriptures of TBS and IBCS from Theravada Buddha Vihara to Thuptan Ga Tseling Monastery, cultural programme and lighting of candles and lamps in both the monasteries were other attractions of the programme. The Buddha Jayanti was also celebrated in other places of Arunachal Pradesh.
Wrestler alleges state Govt. negligence
ITANAGAR, May 04: Alleging years of negligence by the state government in recognising his achievement, state’s promising wrestler Dada Riba said, he would be a happy person to play for other states, if this kind of casual treatment on him continues.
Dada, the only and first wrestler from Arunachal Pradesh has plenty of national and international medals to his credit.
Recently, he won a Bronze medal at 34th (Boys) Junior National Wrestling Championship held at Ranchi, Jharkhand in April.
Riba won a bronze medal in the 33rd boys (free style) Junior National wrestling Championship held at Kodarma, Jharkhand in 2014. He represented India in Asian Championship and brought laurel for India by winning Bronze medal in 2013.

Rains cause heavy damage to roads
AALO, May 04: A group of Sumo drivers, owners and persons associated with the business have expressed their deep resentment and anguish over the pitiable condition of the road from Karo to Tayong and Karle to Monigong in a representation submitted to the EAC Monigong today.
They said that a large portion of the narrow and high altitude road is covered in mud due to incessant rains in the last one week causing the vehicles to skid and get stuck on the road risking the life of passengers. Rains also eroded a good portion of the road, they said, and expressed their fear about the threat of disruption in road communication.
When contacted, Monigong EAC Sang Khandu said he had written a letter to the BRTF authority in March apprehending disruption in road communication during monsoon. He also said that the matter has been informed to the BRTF authority for immediate maintenance.
The BRTF road serves as the lifeline for the people of interior circles of the district. DIPRO

The minister said that the people of Tirap were hard working which is evident from the fact that they used to construct arterial roads in the past on self help basis under the command of the chiefs. Hence, there is no question of failure of these schemes under NERCORMP.
He however, said that there was a time when people were lured by easy earning when timber industry flourished in the district which virtually destroyed a generation of youth. Lowangdong further said that the topography and climate of Tirap were conducive for all kinds of crops and passionately appealed to the people to work hard to make NERCORMP a success.
MLA Wangki Lowang said that development should be inclusive and not confined within a few individuals. Total development would be possible only when all the public representatives and the people work hand in hand with unwavering determination and a set goal, said the MLA.
While underscoring the importance of public participation, Lowang said that the traditional crops like millet, maize and tapioca could be converted into more commercially viable food or into animal feeds for sale to neighbouring states and other districts of the state.
Local MLA Wanglam Sawin said that schemes under NERCORMP could alternate the rampant
opium cultivation in Tirap district and explained the importance of convergence to
make the schemes successful and beneficial to the people. He said that only those

Minister assures to make Basar MDC functional soon
ITANAGAR, May 04: Education Minister Tapang Taloh today assured the Galo Students' Union (GSU) to make the Model Degree College at Basar functional at the earliest.
The assurance came when a GSU delegation led by its president Damik Gameh called on the minister and submitted a three point memorandum here today. The demands included immediate transfer and posting of teachers in schools of Galo inhabited areas, starting of Model Degree College at Basar under West Siang district from the coming academic session and introduction of Science stream at DPGC, Kamki.
The minister further informed the delegation that he is visiting the college site at Basar soon to take stock of the work progress. The education department is ready to make the college functional from the current session, he said and sought cooperation from all stakeholders.
GSU spokesperson Marli Kamki suggested that the unused buildings under UD & Tourism departments at Basar could be used for college purpose temporarily until the college structures at the permanent site come up.
Responding to the demand for posting of teachers, the minister assured the union to post teachers in schools which are facing shortage of teachers at the earliest, the union claimed.
While extending support to the transfer and posting policy of education department, the Union urged the minister to expedite the same before the start of the coming academic session. The GSU strongly feels that the Court should not unnecessarily intervene in transfer and posting policy of education department except under extreme circumstances as it is the students who are at the receiving end due to such legal hassle.
Regarding introduction of Science stream at DPGC, Kamki, the Minister assured to do the needful at the earliest, stated a GSU release.
Ceasefire violation will affect peace process: Rijiju
New Delhi, May 04: The violation of the ceasefire agreement by NSCN will affect the peace process in the region, said Union Minister Kiren Rijiju today while condemning the killing of eight security personnel in a militant attack in Nagaland.
The government has taken serious note of the killings of seven Assam Rifles personnel and one Territorial Army jawan and the security forces will react accordingly, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said.
"The killing of eight Assam Rifles and paramilitary forces personnel is very unfortunate. I condemn the incident.
With such incidents the peace process in the region will be affected," he told reporters on the sidelines of an event to celebrate Buddh Poornima.
He said the government has appealed to NSCN and talks are on with them for bringing peace in the region and hoped such a dialogue yields good results.
"NSCN is doing ceasefire abrogation which is not good. We want that peace prevails in the region and good results should come out of the peace dialogue currently on there.
"We take serious note of the incident from the security point of view. The security forces will react accordingly," he said.
Seven Assam Rifles personnel and one Territorial Army jawan lost their lives as they were fired upon by underground militants when they had gone to Changlansu in Mon district with water tankers to fetch water yesterday. PTI
